The first phase of field surveys for the B_Green project in the city of Coimbra was concluded in August. Between May and June, a bird census was conducted at 20 pre-selected points within the historic area, identifying 32 different species in the urban environment and more than 1,200 specimens.

Subsequently, a building survey was carried out, covering more than 600 structures. The height, volume, state of conservation, type of roofing, existence of balconies and green spaces, among other indicators, were measured.

All this data was recorded in GIS using the common methodology defined by the consortium. This data will now be interconnected to produce the first diagnosis of biodiversity in the historic area of Coimbra.

A sample of the balconies and birds surveyed can be seen in the photos that were captured.
